Why are dentists always so bothered about illegal teeth whitening?

There are 3 major concerns with Teeth Whitening and they are all about your safety.
  • How can a hairdresser or beauty therapist who knows nothing about teeth and gums or diseases of the mouth be taught in a few hours how to assess whether someone is suitable for teeth whitening? What do these people know about dental decay and gum disease?
  • What sort of sterilisation and cross infection protocols are they using?
    • Are their protocols adequate?
    • Are they registered with the CQC to provide clinical treatment?
    • What might you catch?
  • What are they using?
    • They’re not allowed to use hydrogen peroxide, so they try to get around the rules by using nasty chemicals that no dental professional would EVER put near your teeth!
      • Chlorine dioxide damages the enamel and gums as its quite acidic
      • Sodium perborate breaks down to hydrogen peroxide at a much higher level than dentists will use and sodium perborate is damaging to the female reproductive system

Do You Know Which Job Each Of Your Teeth Do ?

Bracknell dentist what do each of your teeth doYour teeth help you to cut up and chew food when you are eating. They help you to talk and make different sounds. They also give your face its shape and they give you a nice smile.  You have four different types of teeth:

Incisors are the teeth at the very front of your mouth. They are the sharpest and help to cut up your food.
Canines are the pointed teeth either side of your incisors. They help to hold and tear your food.
Pre-molars sit behind your canine teeth they have a flat chewing  surface because they help to crush your food.
Molars are your very back teeth. They are big double teeth and are flat. They help you to chew and grind your food into small pieces ready to swallow.

The main cause of tooth decay is the sugar in foods and drinks.

Every time you eat or drink anything sugary your teeth are under attack from the plaque acids for up to one hour. This is because the sugar mixes with the bacteria in the plaque to produce the harmful plaque acids.

Do You Have Crowded, Crooked Or Sticky Out Teeth?

Many people have crowded or crooked teeth.
            • Teeth that don't bite together properly
            • Teeth that are hard to clean and
            • Where food constantly gets stuck - which is often very annoying.
In some people their upper front teeth stick out and look unsightly - good orthodontic treatment can move them back into line. Other people have issues with the way their upper and lower jaws meet, this can cause their teeth to look unsightly and lead to an incorrect bite, which makes eating difficult.

When your teeth don't meet correctly, this puts strain on the muscles of  your jaw, causing jaw and joint problems and in some cases headaches. Good orthodontic treatment can help you to bite evenly and reduce the strain on your jaws.

                Sensitive Teeth?

                bracknell dentist sensitive teeth
                Bracknell dentist can help
                you with Sensitive Teeth issues
We all know that summer is the time we enjoy iced drinks and ice cream, but if you suffer with sensitive teeth this can be a nightmare.
Did you know this issue is more common in people aged from 20 - 40 ?  It can also affect people in their early teens and when they are over 70, and yes, women are more likely to be affected than men!
                Causes of tooth sensitivity are:-
                • Brushing too hard and brushing from side to side can cause your enamel to be worn away particularly where your teeth meet your gums. The freshly exposed dentine may then become sensitive.
                • The loss of tooth enamel caused by attacks of acid from acidic food and drinks. If your tooth enamel is worn away the dentine underneath is exposed, which may lead to sensitivity.
                • Your gums may naturally recede (shrink back), and the roots will become exposed and can be more sensitive.  Your root surfaces do not have an enamel layer to protect them.
                • A build-up of plaque or tartar can cause your gums to recede down your tooth and even destroy the bony support of your tooth.  Pockets can form in the gums around your tooth,  making the area difficult to keep clean and the problem worsens.
                • Clenching and grinding your teeth together can cause your tooth enamel to be worn away, making your teeth sensitive.
                • A cracked tooth or filling that is broken - A crack can run from the biting surface of your tooth down towards the root. Extreme temperatures, especially cold, may cause you discomfort.

As you can see, a lot of reasons why you could have sensitive teeth, let us help you to overcome this issue and you could spend summer 2013 eating ice cream.
