Much like the dental hygienist, the dental therapist has an important role in promoting dental health in the clinic.
They treat adults and children by carrying out a range of dental procedures, including:
Scaling and polishing - cleaning your teeth professionally
Applying fluoride and fissure sealants to teeth
 Taking dental x-rays
Dental health education for children and adults
Routine fillings for adults and children
Using all materials except pre cast or pinned placements
Extracting deciduous (first) teeth under local analgesia

If they have completed appropriate training, (which the Appledore Dental Therapists have) therapists can perform extended duties including:
Pulp therapy treatment of children teeth
Placing pre formed crowns on deciduous (first) teeth
Emergency temporary replacement crowns and fillings
 Taking impressions
Teeth whitening under the supervision of a dentist
Teeth straightening under the supervision of a dentist
Treating patients under conscious sedation provided the dentist remains in the surgery throughout the treatment.
