To ensure you avoid gum problems and tooth loss, you need to practice good oral hygiene, eat a balanced diet and don't smoke or chew tobacco. 

• Even with proper daily dental care, using tobacco can put you at increased risk of gingivitis and periodontal disease. 
• Ensure you have at least 3 dental hygiene visits each year, to ensure your gum health is kept under control - with help from the hygienist/therapist.
• Brushing alone won't remove all the plaque, tartar and calculus that accumulates on your teeth at the gum line - the longer you leave it there, the more likely it is that it will become infected, so a daily routine that includes flossing is a must.  
• Brushing at least twice a day is a must for everyone, but if your gums have recently started bleeding, try brushing after every meal. Your gum health will likely improve, and you'll probably see difference in how often your gums bleed.

Do your gums bleed daily?

• Gingivitis is a serious chronic condition caused by the long-term effects of plaque, a sticky material made of a build up of bacteria, mucus and food debris and hard plaque (tartar). 
• Most of us have some degree of  gingivitis from time to time
• Consistent dental care can turn it around and  prevent serious issues.

• Tartar requires a trip to the dental clinic where a dental therapist or dental hygienist uses specialized ultra-sonic cleaning equipment to break off the tartar and allow your gums to heal. 

• Periodontal disease occurs when gingivitis is left untreated. 

• Whilst gingivitis is restricted to your gums, periodontal disease spreads into the tissue and bone that support your teeth.
• It causes gum tissue to be raw and to have the appearance of pulling away from your teeth. 
• You may also notice pus in between your teeth and around your gums.

• Yellow secretions between your teeth is bad, you're running the risk of tooth loss or tooth death (even a root canal can't save the tooth's foundation).
• Left untreated, periodontal disease can spread to the point where you could lose some, or even all of your teeth.

• One of the most serious explanations for bleeding gums is a bleeding disorder, such as idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).

• With ITP bleeding and bruising are signs of your blood's inability to clot, gums and mouth are frequently the first place where symptoms appear. 
• Along with bleeding, you might also notice pinpoint bruises on your gums and frequent nosebleeds.
