you with Sensitive Teeth issues
We all know that summer is the time we enjoy iced drinks and ice cream, but if you suffer with sensitive teeth this can be a nightmare.
Did you know this issue is more common in people aged from 20 - 40 ?  It can also affect people in their early teens and when they are over 70, and yes, women are more likely to be affected than men!
Causes of tooth sensitivity are:-
  • Brushing too hard and brushing from side to side can cause your enamel to be worn away particularly where your teeth meet your gums. The freshly exposed dentine may then become sensitive.
  • The loss of tooth enamel caused by attacks of acid from acidic food and drinks. If your tooth enamel is worn away the dentine underneath is exposed, which may lead to sensitivity.
  • Your gums may naturally recede (shrink back), and the roots will become exposed and can be more sensitive.  Your root surfaces do not have an enamel layer to protect them.
  • A build-up of plaque or tartar can cause your gums to recede down your tooth and even destroy the bony support of your tooth.  Pockets can form in the gums around your tooth,  making the area difficult to keep clean and the problem worsens.
  • Clenching and grinding your teeth together can cause your tooth enamel to be worn away, making your teeth sensitive.
  • A cracked tooth or filling that is broken - A crack can run from the biting surface of your tooth down towards the root. Extreme temperatures, especially cold, may cause you discomfort.

As you can see, a lot of reasons why you could have sensitive teeth, let us help you to overcome this issue and you could spend summer 2013 eating ice cream.
